Biochemical Physiological Actions When the pure compounds were isolated, α-Tomatine was highly effective in inhibiting all of the cell lines, whereas dehydrotomatine, tomatidenol, and tomatidine had little, if any, effect on cell inhibition. It had been previously shown that commercial tomatine, which is customarily an approximate 10:1 mixture of α-tomatine and dehydrotomatine, strongly inhibits the growth of both colon and liver cancer cells.
